Students in Years 10-13 have recently attended a Careers and Education Fair organised by Miss Goddard, our Careers Advisor and members of our Sixth Form Team.

Thanks to our new development, we can now boast state-of-the-art facilities for Basketball and our students are making the most of it both in PE lessons and after school.

In March, students in Years 7-13 attended an evening learning event at Kielder Observatory, located in the heart of Kielder Forest, which boasts some of the darkest skies in the UK. Here, Year 13 student, Daniel B reports on the experience.

This week we have played host to a fantastic Primary School event, which celebrates the work of Shakespeare. We have been working alongside The County Durham Ensemble, which incorporates nine local schools including our own, to promote and perform eight of the best Shakespearean plays. The performances were the first to take place in our new theatre.

During the Autumn Term, we launched a whole-school strategy to improve literacy skills by encouraging our students to rediscover reading for pleasure as well as for education. Our library programme, Reading Rewards has proved extremely popular and now our new library is a hub for keen readers.

In Film-based Media, Year 13s have produced a range of creative music videos using combinations of carefully edited bespoke and existing footage.

This month, we celebrated World Book Day with a variety of reading and creative writing projects in school including an exciting writing competition, which was launched in assemblies by Mr Grieveson.

As part of our STEM activities, over 100 students in Key Stage 3 have been considering the vast size of the universe and the Milky Way thanks to a portable planetarium on loan from Durham University.

Our 2015 Glastonbury Festival Volunteer Team are busy planning and fundraising for the event in June. This is the second year we have offered this exciting opportunity to Sixth Form students.
