A group of our Year 7 students meet every week for Thursday Book Club and as part of this they get involved in the Yoto Carnegies, the UK's longest running and best-loved children's book awards. This recognises outstanding reading experiences for children and young people, created through writing and illustration in books.

Just like the judges of the Yoto Carnegies, students from the Book Club read and rank the nominated books, but they also meet to discuss their merits and try to guess if the books have been short or long listed. In the most recent Book Club meeting, there was a mixture of emotions, as some students were extremely disappointed that their favourites had not been short-listed, such as The Tyger by S.F Said. Many of the group were shocked that this illustrative book had not met the shortlist for the Carnegies as they had thoroughly enjoyed this book in club sessions. The club is hosted by our Academy Librarian, Mr Wheatley who makes this an exciting and inclusive experience for all who love reading for pleasure.
