Year 7 Geography students have been learning about the causes of flooding in an out-of-classroom lesson with Miss Dixon.

The group were introduced to some of the physical causes of flooding, such as steep slopes, which can cause rainwater to flow over the surface and reach the river too quickly. This means that there is no time for water to be absorbed gradually and naturally into the ground.

They also learned about man-made causes of flooding such as overuse of paths and roads made from impermeable materials, which means that rainwater cannot soak in and instead sits on the surface, eventually causing flooding.

Students really enjoyed the opportunity to get outside of the classroom and said that they had a much better understanding of the topic because of it.
