Year 10 students in Mrs. Glen's after school Maths Masterclass have enjoyed a fun festive session creating a huge fractal Christmas tree made of a Koch fractal snowflake star, 64 Sierpinksi tetrahedra for the tree, and Menger fractal boxes for the base.
If you are wondering what a Koch fractal snowflake star is, it involves making a star shape by repeating a process using equilateral triangles. A Sierpinksi tetrahedra, also known as a tetris is a 3D version of the Sierpinski triangle.
Students worked in pairs and small groups to create individual tetris shapes, which were then combined into one very impressive giant Christmas tree at the end of the session.
