Following the popularity and success of our previous Duke of Edinburgh programmes, over 40 students in Years 9 and 10 have signed up to complete the Bronze Award and some students have also progressed to Silver.
Alongside volunteering requirements and developing a new skill, to achieve the award participants must also complete a two-day, one-night journey, with a focus on navigation skills, teamwork, and resourcefulness. This expedition is designed to be an enjoyable introduction to outdoor adventure and independence.
Students are preparing for the expedition by taking part in a number of activities including learning basic first aid in case of minor injuries during the journey. With our on-site First Aid Trainer, Jonathan Page, students learned how to apply a range of wound dressings and support bandages, plus they learned how to perform CPR in an emergency situation.
