We reward our students for hard work, achievement, attendance and positive behaviour in a number of ways. These are just a few.
Each day, students earn Class Charts points in lessons for various reasons including supporting others, being positive and showing respect, alongside producing good work. They can also earn extra points for attending lunchtime or after-school study sessions, helping out at public events and getting involved in fundraising activities. Points earned can then be exchanged for a range of stationery items and sweet treats from our Rewards Store, which is open at lunchtime two days per week.
Mrs Aitkin, Deputy Headteacher also organises a themed rewards event each half term to recognise students in each year group who have earned the highest number of Class Charts points. Students are invited to our Library where they are treated to luxury hot chocolate or milk shake, plus cupcakes and cookies, all themed around either Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day or Easter. In July, for the summer term, students are even rewarded with a visit from the ice cream van!
Our annual Prize Evening recognises the efforts of students in all year groups and in all subjects. Prize winners are chosen by their Form Tutors and subject teachers, and they are presented with their award at a formal event which is attended by family, King James staff and guest speakers. This is a much-anticipated event, and students are both excited and proud to receive an invitation.
Students with excellent behaviour and attendance are also invited to attend Mr Bishop’s Year Group Movie Afternoons, which take place each term in our Main Hall. In the past, students have enjoyed movies including Elf, Creed 3, Goosebumps, The Witches and The Women in Black.
