Some members of The Review writing team.
This year, English Teacher Miss Gowland launched an extra-curricular writing club for students who are enthusiastic about developing their writing skills. Writers work together to produce a student-led publication called 'The Review'.
The club has 25 members in all year groups who write reviews about books, movies and computer games, which they then combine into a single publication. Members have all been trained on how to write an effective review and how to choose appropriate things to include in a school magazine. Reviews are written, proofread and uploaded to Google Classroom for feedback and approval before the team then meet in person to edit the magazine and agree on things like layout. Students then design their page and add imagery for additional audience appeal.
Miss Gowland said, “The club is great for promoting literacy, journalism skills, transactional writing and team working too. The students are really engaged because they enjoy sharing their opinions and creating a final product, and they like the fact that many of our staff members take their recommendations on board when choosing a gift for their own children.”
